In the early months of 1997, I began to write down thoughts and views about my personal journey as an artist. I gave the writings a working title of "essays."

Over the years the commentary amounted to many essays and after a number of major re-writes and edits, I feel confident these essays are ready to be shared with others.

Make no mistake, most of the essays remain a work-in-progress and are by no means the final word or the only authoritative word on art. Some have been published in art publications including "Bottega," the journal of the Drawing Society of Canada. I am still learning, and if time does bear witness that the older I get the less resistant I am to continual edits of my work, then let the edits continue. Nevertheless, as time teaches me to simplify matters, I remain convinced I do have something worthwhile to share and my voice is worth listening too.

The ancients said, "as silver tried in the furnace of the earth, purified seven times," so I am not alone on this road of continual edits and simplicity. This is the essence of abstraction, a road I have dared venture upon these last few years in addition to my classical realism adventure.
Ultimately, however, you will be the judge of that.
